We had the pleasure of talking to the wonderful and talented Timoney and learned how she created a really awesome black and white shared bedroom for her two sons Barnaby (11) and Henry (8). Disclosure: this post may contain some affiliate links.
“I wanted to create a monochrome room with a few pops of colour throughout the space. I’m very inspired by Scandinavian design, and wanted to create a clean and fairly minimal space. The white painted walls in military base housing helped create this look.
The larger furniture items: dresser, desk, shelves, bed and cube storage are all from Ikea. I especially like to buy furniture for my children from Ikea, It’s great if you’re decorating on a budget and the styles always work well for the look I’m trying to achieve.
I’m a London girl living in the USA, so I’m always trying to find ways to incorporate things that remind me of my “home” in my decor: the London skyline decal above the desk is an example of this which I found on Amazon.
I love to use my children’s toys as accessories in the room to create a “theme” that I can easily change out, at the moment it’s Star Wars and Lego (My boys are HUGE Star Wars fans!).
I love organized spaces and hate to see clutter and mess so I used cube storage to divide all of their toys and books. I find this helps keep their room looking tidy and makes it super easy for them to clean by themselves. I try to use what items I already have to decorate a space, most of the items on the shelves above the desk are toys that my boys already had.
Black cubes are from Ikea and triangular cubes are from H&M (Similar options here, here, here and here) The duvet cover is from cotton on, the star rug is from H&M, the spot rug and stripe blanket are both from Ikea.
The Roxy Marj raccoon blanket hanging on the bed, the oversized Stendig calendar and the Ferm Living laundry hamper were a few of the item I splurged on! (paper bag “toy” storage sack from tellkiddo, Lego brick storage boxes from all modern.”
Thank you to Timoney for sharing this amazing room!
