The school year is quickly starting so lets take a look at a beautiful diy homeschooling space. We welcome back Terra as she gives us a look at her perfect rustic homeschooling room for her four kids.
“We are entering our 4th year of homeschooling this year. Our school space has evolved big time over the past 4 years from bright colored calendars stapled to our dining room wall to what we have now!
This project started out like most of mine do with some “for free” funky piece of furniture and a need for a more workable space.
Meet funky piece of free furniture…This beauty had a previous life as an army school table and was going to be tossed out!! Crazy right!? The table was ridiculously long and since we had to cut it down anyway we decided to do an “L” shape in order to maximize space… I knew I didn’t want to keep the outdated honey oak color and with minimal wall space we decided to make the table one giant chalkboard! A couple coats of chalkboard paint and a trim piece for the cut edge and we were in business.
After the table was cut, placed and painted came the fun part…. Accesorizing!
This wall started with this amazing reclaimed wood American flag complete with Pledge of Allegiance done by a local artisan. In following with the reclaimed wood theme I added a shelf with a piece of scrap wood we had and shelf brackets I got at IKEA! I finished it off with two clip boards we got at Dollar Tree and embellished by painting a chalkboard strip at the bottom making them the perfect place to showcase stellar work!
On the main wall I added a large fabric world map I got on clearance at Hobby lobby, a smaller poster style map of the United States, a cute real “classroom rules” sign I got from the Target dollar spot, a copy of the Declaration of Independence I decoupaged to a canvas, and finished off the table with a handmade sugar mold I got at a local antique store (it stores crayons and chalk perfectly!)”
